The Lake

Hi! Just got back from the Laurentians.  It rained like mad but it was still great. Spent some time painting with my grandmother on her porch.  It was wonderful.  Here is my latest painting which is a view from our dock.  Hope you like it!

One of the things I enjoy most about paintings is not only colour- but the underpainting.  Some artists choose to paint a layer of colour on the canvas before they start, and let the underpainting show through the colours on top.  I usually just start with the white painted canvas, but for this painting I started with black.  I thought it would work well seeing as the water was so dark that day.  If you look closely you can see some black peeking through the trees.  I am really happy with the result and will definitely try it again.
